My partner Alessandra and I were tasked with developing a short story using the camera shots and angles we had learned in the previous classes. We needed to use two objects for the story and had to try and develop a plot and different tones/developments.
For our short story, me and my partner used our two water bottles: my Owala and her Hydro flask to create a story where the Hydro flask, the more trendy and high-end water bottle, meets the Owala with a comedic tone. At first, the two bottles would not get along, as the Hydro flask would see itself as superior to the Owala. However, towards the end of the story, the two water bottles learned to get along and realized that they were similar.
I feel that both me and my partner did an equal amount of the project and did our parts to the best of our abilities. While my partner focused on making the shots and taking on most of the powerpoint, I was the one who developed the plot and came up with the different shot ideas we implemented in the project.
In regards to the plot, while I did successfully achieve to give the story a comedic tone, I felt that there could have been a better buildup to the conclusion. In the plot, they start out as enemies and suddenly become friends at the end of the story, rather than having a more gradual arc to reach that conclusion. In addition, while the camera shots I picked all made sense, I felt that there was a portion of the story (the part where it switched from over-the-shoulder to mid-shot four times) that could have been executed better. I feel I could have used other shots to convey the message better and also benefit the plot at the same time. Overall, I believe the project was an excellent starting point for me and I'm certain that as I continue to learn and evolve in AICE Media Studies, so will my abilities to do better in projects like these.
